A Renassaince Faire's entertainment is unique, in that the audience actively participates with the cast. In the pictures below, Faire workers and patrons are intermingled indiscriminately (with the obvious exception of the jousting). A customer's participation is limited only by his or her imagination (and sometimes not even that).

What would a Renaissance Faire be without jousting?
For a movie of two knights jousting, click here
Dogwatch, temporarily abstaining from shanties long enough to form up a group of pikemen
Note to militia: it's probably not the best of ideas to scrounge for recruits right in front of the beer tent (sure they're willing enough, but quantity doesn't always equal quality)
Corporal Littlefield has a similar problem, but he has evidently learned to start the new recruits off with wooden weapons (hopefully not the hard way)
Corproal Littlefield examining the various components of his matchlock before firing
For a movie of this machlock being loaded and fired (all in less than 20 seconds), click here
and now to see if the recruits have mastered their lesson
"oh to Hell with it, just club 'em over the head with the bloody thing"
There are matters other than war to be found in the Shire - here a young man has succombed to the Curse of Silence that has run rampant in the village (seen in the form of a blue tag hanging around his neck)
The Curse can only be lifted by the kiss of another, who then becomes afflicted with the curse
or, on occasion, two others (you can see why the Curse ran so rampant)
And Now For Something Completely Different: the Lady Lynda prepares to be knighted by the Queen
The Queen remarks that becoming a noblewoman increases the likliehood of finding a husband
For some reason, Lady Lynda is less than enthralled by this relevation
Evidently the Lady Lynda does not believe herself in need of any such assistance
and evidently her mother, Mistress von Cleavage, does not agree, seekin assistance from the Court of Common Pleas in finding a husband for her daughter
Though initially not displeased with the Court's first attempt, she is advised by her mother that "Moor is Less"

and, judging by the reaction of Lady Lynda, the choices available are quickly going from bad ...
... to worse

"But Mother!" Lynda cries, "he is more feminine than I am!"
Note that it is unwise to try to thwart Love's True Course; here Miss Juliet calls up a number of the men of the Shire before the Court of Courtly Love, for failure to courteously accept and appreciate proper wooing
In particular, she was quick to point out one egregious example
the 21st century term would be "busted"

but in any century ...
... you can run ...

... but you can't hide
Finally, even when the activity consists of something as innocuous as a masque (narrated play), it is best to mind one's manners (especially regarding those ultra-modern signalling devices known as "mobile phones")
Yet another bit of little-known Renaissance Faire magic - even people at home can join in the fun!
"Virginia says hello!"
So, if you've ever wanted to get a taste of what the Faire was like, you can always have a friend with a mobile phone go in your stead ...
... and still get the best seat in the house
