Dogwatch
(with a large metallically-attired spectator in the foreground, sitting
on the second most salient feature of the Faire grounds) They also perform
in American Colonial and just-plain-pirate settings, being the "musical
arm of the Virginia State Navy 1781 Reenactors organization".. More

Master
Thomas Tallis playing his virginal (which you must admit is preferable
to somebody diddling on their organ). He can honestly turn any song
into a Renaissance tune (if you've never heard the harpsichord version
of Inna Gadda Da Vita, you don't know what you're missing). Both
his CDs and manuscripts can be ordered at http://www.musicbythemaster.com |

The
Gravedigger not only performs perfect renditions of classical guitar
pieces, but also performs burials (and can also provide music for
the funeral service) Don't be nervous if you see him walking behind
you with a hangman's rope, and don't miss hearing him play. More

TomLori are
historical music reenactors and entertainers, performing period and traditional
Scots/Irish Celtic folk music. You'd never believe that so much music
could come out of something as small as a penny whistle. More info can

I'm still
trying to figure out a good way to describe the Minstrels of Mayhem. Besides
being a group that's solved the eternal problem of trying to remember
the lyrics (they do a song based on nursery rhymes and ask the audience
to shout out their favourites), they're probably the only folk group you'll
ever doing a medley of the Andy Griffith show, Gilligan's Island, China
Grove and Smoke on the Water (though I still keep hoping to hear Locomotive
Breath in there somewhere) |

(above, one of
the Cups performing for one of the other Cups)
|
|
"In
Our Cups" is a vocal group consisting of various permutations
of Serendipity Goosebury, Felicity Thunderberry and Vanity Hornblower
(Vanity being absent due to a conflicting engagement during much
of the latter run of this Faire, unfortunately) In a nutshell, their
music is a combination of traditional music with sublime arrangements,
mixed in with mind-numbing tongue-twisters and new verses to ribald
classics. |
|
As
you can tell from the pictures, the name "In Our Cups"
is not at all unappropriate (I'm referring to the beer mugs - that's
my story and I'm sticking to it) |
